We are moving right along in the Gospel of John, and this week we get John’s version of the calling of the Disciples. One of the many reasons I love this lectionary is that it gives John the same amount of space as the Synoptic Gospels.
The Revised Common Lectionary works on a three year schedule, with each year focusing on either Matthew, Mark, or Luke, and then John just sort of gets sprinkled in there. But with this lectionary we get a better picture of just how different the Gospel of John, and you can see that even just in how Jesus calls his disciples. As a teaser to Sunday, in Matthew, Mark, and Luke the call is “come follow me”. In John it’s “come and see.” So what does that difference mean? Well… come and see! -Pastor Paul
