ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Tjärnblom, Swedish for “woodland lake flower”, is a Scandinavian-style string band featuring a beautiful blend of Nyckelharpa, Octave Mandolin, Harmonium and Cello.  They travel a modern “Snoose Boulevard Highway” in a musical journey, and play a repertoire of both old and new Swedish, Finnish, and Minnesota tunes for dancing and for listening. They’ve performed across the state of Minnesota, and have appeared on Minnesota Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion show. The name Tjärnblom is in honor of the Swedish grandfather of one of the band members.

ABOUT THE BENEFICIARY

Since 1976, FamilyWise has pursued their mission: to strengthen families by promoting the safety, stability, and wellbeing of children. Their vision is for a world where every child thrives.

As a multi-service, multi-cultural agency, FamilyWise focuses on nurturing children, families, and communities through culturally competent services. Their staff reflect the communities they serve through shared lived experiences and cultural background, and many can provide services in languages other than English. Their programs focus on natural supports, experiential learning, education, and a therapeutic approach with expertise in trauma-effective care.

This Sunday we will wrap up our brief Summer Sermo This Sunday we will wrap up our brief Summer Sermon Series, “Short Stories by Jesus” with the “Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard”. Seems appropriate for Labor Day! Along with whatever this tricky parable brings us, also, remember that Labor Day is not just another three day weekend for grilling. Monday is the day we recognize the Labor Movement, which brought us things, like, oh, say, the weekend (not the band, the actual weekend!). Today this movement continues to be necessary. With a criminally low and stagnant federal minimum wage and many other such factors, say a prayer this weekend for “The Worker”, for those who are doing everything they can to make ends meet, but are stuck compensation systems that prevent it.

But also, simply have a lovely weekend, and we'll see you on Sunday!
