For our December concert in the Community Concert Series, we welcome back the Seymour Brass Sextet on Saturday, December 14 at 7:00pm! The concert is free to attend, with a freewill offering benefitting Pratt Community School.

The Christmas season is a special time for music, especially brass music ever since the Salvation Army’s brass ensembles began playing on street corners for Christmas shoppers. Thus, as part of our Community Concert Series, PPUMC invites you, one and all, to come hear our local “Seymour Brass Sextet” play a concert of music from “Joy to the World” to “Silent Night,” from “Jingle Bells” to “The Wassail Song.” It will be a “jingle-joyous” evening!

The Seymour Brass Sextet is made up of:

Tuba (bass voice): Derek Nelson
Euphonium (baritone voice): Marilee Johnson
Trombone (tenor voice): Brad Voves
French Horn (alto voice): Bob Garnett
Trumpets (soprano voices): KP Powell and Jake Gysland

The concert is FREE, with a freewill offering benefitting our neighbors across the street at Pratt Community School.

Pratt Community School receives support from a strong international community fostered by its close proximity to the University of Minnesota.

Pratt prides itself on creating an inclusive school community and celebrating its diversity across racial, ethnic and socio-economic boundaries. As a small community school, it offers individualized and active learning experiences where staff knows each child and appreciates them for their unique talents.

Committed to providing a quality education for every child, Pratt recognizes the important role families play as their children’s first teachers.

Hello, Beloved! My what a Sunday we have before us Hello, Beloved! My what a Sunday we have before us. It’s “Sweet Corn Sunday!” It should be a fun time gathering after worship to be together and share a meal outside as the Summer begins to wind down.

But wait, there’s more!

Also this Sunday in worship First Saturday Folk is providing the music, which is always fun. I am very much looking forward to this Sunday with y’all, and I hope you can join us in person so we can enjoy Sweet Corn Sunday together, but if not, there is still plenty of community, music, and meaning to be found in worship, whether you are in the pews or on Zoom. So regardless of how you join us, this is a Sunday you don’t want to miss! Oh, and, yeah, I’ll squeak a sermon in there too, as head into week 2 of “Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi”.

One more thing: I don’t think there are many of us, but you cross the I-94 bridge over the river on your way in and out of PPUMC, be advised that I-94 between I35W and 280 will be closed this weekend! So you may need some extra time coming in. The good news is that after this weekend all lanes will reopen!

Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you Sunday! -Paul
