For our December concert in the Community Concert Series, we welcome back the Seymour Brass Sextet on Saturday, December 14 at 7:00pm! The concert is free to attend, with a freewill offering benefitting Pratt Community School.

The Christmas season is a special time for music, especially brass music ever since the Salvation Army’s brass ensembles began playing on street corners for Christmas shoppers. Thus, as part of our Community Concert Series, PPUMC invites you, one and all, to come hear our local “Seymour Brass Sextet” play a concert of music from “Joy to the World” to “Silent Night,” from “Jingle Bells” to “The Wassail Song.” It will be a “jingle-joyous” evening!

The Seymour Brass Sextet is made up of:

Tuba (bass voice): Derek Nelson
Euphonium (baritone voice): Marilee Johnson
Trombone (tenor voice): Brad Voves
French Horn (alto voice): Bob Garnett
Trumpets (soprano voices): KP Powell and Jake Gysland

The concert is FREE, with a freewill offering benefitting our neighbors across the street at Pratt Community School.

Pratt Community School receives support from a strong international community fostered by its close proximity to the University of Minnesota.

Pratt prides itself on creating an inclusive school community and celebrating its diversity across racial, ethnic and socio-economic boundaries. As a small community school, it offers individualized and active learning experiences where staff knows each child and appreciates them for their unique talents.

Committed to providing a quality education for every child, Pratt recognizes the important role families play as their children’s first teachers.

This Sunday we will wrap up our brief Summer Sermo This Sunday we will wrap up our brief Summer Sermon Series, “Short Stories by Jesus” with the “Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard”. Seems appropriate for Labor Day! Along with whatever this tricky parable brings us, also, remember that Labor Day is not just another three day weekend for grilling. Monday is the day we recognize the Labor Movement, which brought us things, like, oh, say, the weekend (not the band, the actual weekend!). Today this movement continues to be necessary. With a criminally low and stagnant federal minimum wage and many other such factors, say a prayer this weekend for “The Worker”, for those who are doing everything they can to make ends meet, but are stuck compensation systems that prevent it.

But also, simply have a lovely weekend, and we'll see you on Sunday!
