Online Worship: Lessons & Carols

Late in the 1800’s the singing of Christmas songs and carols began to move from homes into churches. The story goes that clergy hoped to attract folks away from the taverns on Christmas Eve! Over time the Service of Nine Lessons & Carols developed. This traditional Christmas format tells the story of Jesus’ birth from ancient prophecy to the vision of a New Day in song and scripture.

Now, in this time of so many wonders, we move the service from the sanctuary back to our homes! It is the third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, the Sunday of rejoicing. We light three candles in the Advent wreath, and hope you will light a candle with joyful associations in your personal worship space as well.
We are connected by the light, by the star that shines above the manger – bright in the dark. It is winter, and the Base Camp of our church community is warm. Let’s rest a bit together, reflect, refuel, and refresh our sense of reverence.

Our post worship conversations are on holiday!
We resume January 10, 2021.

There will be an Annual All-Church Charge Conference to approve the PPUMC 2021 budget, immediately following worship at approximately 11 am.
