a birthday gathering held at my daughter’s home, my two-year old
grandson, Dan, was busy entertaining his small cousins in the
playroom. Meanwhile, the adult family members were gathering in
the dining room, preparing to say grace in the traditional Catholic
style. Dan was slightly delayed moving toward the table, perhaps by a
toy car needing to be parked or maybe by some tall uncles and aunties
blocking his path. As the last amen was said, Dan burst onto the
scene next to the dining room table. Grandma Karen greeted him
with a smile and asked if she could get him a plate of food. Dan
tilted his head up to look at her and a mournful expression came over
his face. “But I haven’t prayed!” he wailed. Grandma Karen said,
“That’s OK, you can pray now and we’ll help you.” The roomful of
friends and relatives bowed their heads and recited the blessing one
more time. Bless us, O Lord and these thy gifts … |
