Useful Web ResourcesCongregations Caring for Creation The mission of this network, Congregations Caring for Creation, is to promote the active care of creation as integral to spiritual life and social justice in Minnesota communities of faith. C3/MN Interfaith Power and Light are making the movie "An Inconvenient Truth," along with other documentaries about global warming, available to congregations. There are many resource links on this website, including "40 simple Ways to Green Your Congregation." Phone: 612-331-1099 Eco-Justice Ministry An independent, ecumenical agency providing resources for those who want to work toward social justice and environmental sustainability. Lots of links, including study and preaching guides. Browse their list of quotations, such as a Isaac Asimov's "Violence is the last resort of the incompetent." Earth Ministry Earth Ministry is composed of over 1,400 individuals and 100 congregations who join with the National Council of Churches in the belief that "addressing the degradation of God's sacred Earth is the moral assignment of our time." Lutheran Coalition for Public Policy in Minnesota The Coalition works toward engaging "all people of faith in the promotion of public policy that supports peace, justice and care for all of God's creation." The website provides numerous ways for people to become involved in taking action Earth Charter The Earth Charter is "a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society for the 21st century." Visit the website to read the entire Charter, find resources and links, and get involved. The Gaia Web The concept of "Gaia" recognizes the Earth as a living entity; a self-regulating system of which human beings are only a small part. Yet, human impact on the planet is growing. This website provides information about the Gaia principle and how we can be a beneficial part of the system, rather than a parasite. Worldwatch Institute The Institute is an independent, globally focused environmental and social policy research organization. They release several publications, including an annual "State of the World" report and a bi-monthly magazine called "World Watch." World Water Assessment Program (WWAP) This UN-wide program seeks to develop the tools and skills needed to achieve a better understanding of those basic processes, management practices and policies that will help improve the supply and quality of global freshwater resources. HOURCar Visit the HOURCar website and learn how you can be involved in car-sharing! HOURCar maintains a fleet of cars that are available to members on a pay-as-you-use basis. HOURCar is a program of the nonprofit Neighborhood Energy Connection. Better World Club The Better World Club is currently the only American roadside assistance club that offers environmentally friendly services. Membership includes eco-travel services, discounts on hybrid cars, insurance, maps, auto maintenance discounts and bicycle roadside assistance. A percentage of their annual revenues is donated toward environmental cleanup and advocacy. TerraPass Calculate your car's emissions and buy a TerraPass that is guaranteed to balance the impact of your car's carbon dioxide emissions by helping to fund clean energy projects. You'll also find carbon calculators for traveling by plane and for your home energy use. Alliance for Sustainability The Alliance for Sustainability is a Minnesota-based, tax-deductible nonprofit supporting model sustainability projects on the local, national and international levels. Minnesota Environmental Partnership The Minnesota Environmental Partnership is a coalition of 90 Minnesota environmental and conservation organizations working together to protect and preserve Minnesota's precious natural environment. Together, the Partnership's member organizations are supported by more than 500,000 Minnesotans. The Partnership provides a way for environmental organizations to collaborate in their efforts to make sure that Minnesota's natural resources are well cared for. And if you want to continue "greening" the Earth, even after you die ... Green burial is a viable option for people who want to honor and respect the planet, even after they die. Green burial promotes the use of caskets and other burial products that are biodegradable, thereby keeping unnecessary toxins out of the ecosystem. Green burial spaces are memorial nature preserves or natural burial grounds where the body is returned to nature. The resulting greenspace is treated as a living memorial and often forms a protected wildlife preserve. Memorial Ecosystems Memorial Ecosystems Inc. opened Ramsey Creek preserve in 1996, the first “green cemetery” in the United States. The preserve was formed to harness the funeral industry for land protection and restoration, to fund non-profits, education, the arts and scientific research, and to provide a less expensive and more meaningful burial option. Eternal Reefs Eternal Reefs designs environmentally safe cast concrete reefs that incorporate the cremated remains of an individual into a reef structure to provide new marine habitats for fish and other forms of sea life.
