About the Series:

PPUMC is pleased to sponsor a community concert series, with concerts monthly from September of 2012 through May of 2013.  The concerts are free and open to the public.  Children are welcome.   A free-will offering will be taken at each concert with 100% of the proceeds going to the cause listed for each concert.  Some information about the concerts can be found below. Please check this page for information updates as concert dates approach!

The PPUMC Community Concert Series Presents:

September

  • Date: Saturday, September 15th, 7:30 PM
  • Group: Chuck Boody, Sandi Boody, Laura Dillon, Karen Radford, Mike Regouski, Karen Krueger, Jim Ahrens, Jeanette Anderson, and Mark Anderson
  • Brief: Songs and tunes from the Civil War Era.
  • More Info: Join this eclectic group of musicians for the FIRST concert of the new season. They will be performing a collection of tunes of the Civil War Era ... some familiar, some not. Click to download a PDF of the concert flyer
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit the rebuilding project for Walker UMC that was destroyed by fire Memorial Day Weekend 2012.

October

  • Date: Friday, October 19, 7:30 PM
  • Group: Roberta Kagin & friends; hosted by Michael Barone (MPR's Pipedreams)
  • Brief:  Come celebrate the sounds of the PPUMC organ!
  • More Info: This concert will celebrate our historic Hinners Organ, presenting early American organ music. MPR's very own Michael Barone will be hosting the program. Our PPUMC Organist, Roberta Kagin, will be joined by organists, Curt Oliver and Diana Lee Lucker for this amazing evening of organ music.
  • Donations taken at this concert:  Will benefit "Imagine No Malaria"

November

  • Date: Saturday, November 10, 7:00 PM
  • Group: First Saturday Folk
  • Brief:  This is PPUMC's own homegrown folk group.
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit Genesis II - now called "FamilyWise"

December

  • Date: Saturday, December 8, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Brass Quintet
  • Brief:  Join the Brass Quintet for a lovely evening of Christmas music.
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit Emma Norton Services

Asante Children's Choir (January concert #1)

Asante Children's Choir

  • Date: Saturday, January 5, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Asante Children's Choir (Link to their home page)
  • Info: "Asante" means "Thank you" in Swahili. The Asante Children's Choir is more than just a children's choir from East Africa! You will experience enthusiastic singing, dancing, and costumes. The choir was originally formed to have a way for the kids to express their appreciation of God, of God's love, and of the support so many show to underprivileged children and families around the world. Asante is an eleven year old Christian organization which currently educates, feeds and provides medical care for more than 1600 children -- mostly orphans in Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi. The choir is made up of 20 children from these developing countries..
  • Donations: The concert is free, but there will be a free will offering taken, and an opportunity to buy African crafts to support the Choir.

Timbre Junction (January Concert #2)

  • Date: Saturday, January 12, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Timbre Junction
  • Brief:  Always a rousing time with Timbre Junction. Come shake off the winter's cold with foot-stomping music.
  • Donations taken at this concert:  Will benefit Habitat for Humanity

February

elk river german band

  • Date: Saturday, February 9, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Elk River German Band
  • Brief:  You enjoyed them so much during last year's concert, and they had a good time, too. Come polka in the aisles with the Elk River German Band!
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit Southeast Seniors

March

  • Date: Saturday, March 16, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Lazy Does It
  • Brief:  Dixieland at its finest!
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit Glendale Foodshelf

April

  • Date: Saturday, April 13, 7:00 PM
  • Group: Calliope Women's Chorus
  • Brief:  Lovely voices ... a lovely concert to welcome Spring.
  • Donations taken at this concert: Will benefit MN Council of Churches Refugee Services

  • Group: 3 Barbershop Quartets! Happiness Emporium, Vocality, and Medallion
  • Brief: Featuring the sounds of men's and women's a cappella harmony.
