Meeting Pastor Chad Koppes

Bishop Sally Dyck, along with the Cabinet and the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee are pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Chad Koppes to PPUMC. The SPPR was impressed with Chad’s strong desire to serve, his collaborative spirit, his willingness to grow with our community and challenge us to live out our mission.

Who?  Rev. Chad Koppes.  Married to Rev. Christine Koppes, who jointly shares the PPUMC appointment with him (as of June 2009)

What?  He is coming to us as a licensed local pastor.  This means he will perform the sacraments, but only at PPUMC.  He is on the path to be fully ordained

Where will they live?  The PPUMC parsonage.

When?  Rev. Koppes’ first Sunday at PPUMC was June 29, 2008.

Biographical information

• Graduate of Woodbury High School (1991)
• Bethel University, B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies (2001) - he did 1 ½ years of school, then the Navy, then back to school
• 6 years in the Navy on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower – worked as an electrician and was in charge of the training program for the electrical division – about 70 sailors (honorable discharge 1999)
• Princeton Theological Seminary, M.Div. (2004)
• Princeton Theological Seminary, Ph.D. Christian Ed. (expected completion 2010) - emphasis on Christian education

He has worked as a teaching assistant at Princeton Theological Seminary and at Princeton Day School, taught Christian Education Classes with many different age groups, led worship services at the Princeton University Chapel, at St. Mark’s UMC in New Jersey and at Woodbury UMC.  He is currently leading two Disciple Bible Classes, is a mentor in the Woodbury UMC confirmation program and also tutors second and third graders in a St Paul elementary school.

He plays drums, softball, likes basketball.  He and Christine enjoy birding and camping.
